It’s Coming: The Who Do You Like Game

It’s almost halfway through the NBA season and that means the voting for the All-Star game is in full swing. The latest results available are from Dec. 24th at http://www.insidehoops.com/all-star-voting-results.shtml. Once again, there is big news on who is going to be an All Star and who’s being snubbed , who’s undeserving and who really cares. Personally, people take the idea of being an All Star, All Too seriously. It’s really not that big of a deal. Not like it used to be anyways, when it meant something, and before people lose their minds, let me explain.

Being an All Star is strictly a popularity contest. It’s a game for the fans who vote and watch. The players know it, or at least it seems like it because for most of the game they mess around and try to put on a fun show. Now this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Everyone likes a little showboating in the game, watching something you wouldn’t normally see. Most people’s issue with the current system has a perfect example in the voting for Tracy McGrady to be an All Star this year. Problem is, he played in All of 6 games this year for about 8 minutes each time. I argue though, why does that matter? The fans want him there, he should be able to go. If you want the term All Star to hold legitimacy, based on merit, then don’t have your fans be the majority voters.

Come on people wake up, it’s a Fun Game for Big Stars, the all star game doesn’t deserve the capitals, only the ratings. Let’s change the name and quit the jawing. How about the Who Do You Like Game?
