The next of couple bowl games are indeed interesting and we’ll be seeing a lot of flash come January. However, I’m still edging toward the feeling that these games aren’t going to be as close as the talking heads have been predicting. It seems like mostly hype so that people will watch and the ratings will be good. Personally, I think people are going to watch anyways, so why not just tell it like it is…
Besides the National Championship game, everyone has been talking about the Fiesta Bowl more than any other. There are a couple reasons for this, one being that both teams are undefeated and not playing for the championship. Also, they’re both from non-BCS conferences wanting to prove that they deserve a shot at the big time. Now I admit, I’ve been accused of being a non-BCS hater before, but even I was rooting for these guys to get to prove their mettle. Boise State and TCU have records like this almost every year, and for the second year in a row, the BCS puts them against each other instead of a “powerhouse” school. Can you say, BCS cop-out? Anyways, the game should be good anyway. TCU leads the nation in defense while Boise State leads the nation in scoring. Who will triumph? I’m going with the team that I feel could be winning championships with their defense, TCU. This one could be a nail-biter though.
Allstate Sugar Bowl: Florida (12-1) vs. Cincinnati (12-0)
This match-up should provide a lot of firepower on both sides of the ball, with Tony Pike throwing the bejeezus out of the ball and Tim Tebow doing it on the ground and through the air. Both teams have had vaunted offenses throughout the season, which have proven to be pretty much consistent. It’s the defenses that’ll decide this game, once again. (Noticing a trend?) Using that as the basis for my prediction, Florida will ultimately take this game. They’re the more balanced team, averaging about the same amount of yardage running as passing, while Cincinnati is doing it mostly over the top. I’m predicting that Florida comes in knowing that and makes the Bearcats beat them on the ground. If it goes as planned, Florida takes this one easily. Also, Tim Tebow’s last game? Have to give him the edge, because no one is gonna play harder etc, etc. Yak.
